What is Wisdom of God According to Bible?

In human terms we would say that Wisdom is the capacity in knowledge and ability that a person has. But the Wisdom of God is an absolute attribute that only God possesses (Ro 16:27), which is demonstrated in creation and redemption in Christ (Pr 3:19, 8:22-31; 1 Co 1:30; Col 2:2-3). God also grants it to those who seek him with reverence (Pr 2:6, 9:10). When we speak of Divine Wisdom in relation to people, it refers to the abilities granted by God to people in all aspects of life (craftsmanship Ex 35:1, knowledge and understanding to decide rightly 1 Re 5:12; 1 Co 6: 5).

If we look for a more exact term than Wisdom, the most precise definition is that “God is Wisdom”. Because he is the creator of all things in heaven and on earth and nothing is hidden from Him (Read Psalm 139). For what is hidden from man and his human wisdom limited, to God is not. A very clear example to explain what is the Wisdom of God and that of man, is like trying to put all the sea in a glass.

How to Get Wisdom of God or Spiritual Wisdom?

The Wisdom of God is not something that is obtained by reading 200 books or solving the most complicated equation. This wisdom is the revelation of God through the Holy Spirit (2 Sa 23:2) and is only obtained by a reverent search for God (Pr 2:3-6) and the reading of His Word (Pr 2:1-6). It is the Spirit of God who provides us with His Wisdom and who will make us understand His words ( Pr 1:23). But the Bible tells us that there is only one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit of God and is Jesus Christ (Mt 3:11, Lk 3:16). Only through faith in Christ is this wisdom obtained (Col 2:2-3), since he is the only intercessor between God and Man (1 Tim. 2:5), giving himself for our sins so that the veil of our mind could be taken away, and the Wisdom of God revealed to us (He 10:19-22; Mr 15:37-39).

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7).

Characteristics of the Wisdom of God in Proverbs

  • To be wise you must first obey God (Pr 1:7, 9:10).
  • It is the Spirit of God who instructs us Wisdom (Pr 1:23).
  • Wisdom is granted by God (Pr 2:6).
  • Wisdom he guards you from the evil way (Pr 2:10-19).
  • It is doubly happy who gets it (Pr 3:13).
  • Wisdom gives you many years of life and also eternal life with Christ (Pr 3:13-19).
  • It is an attribute of God (Pr 3:19).
  • It has greater value than riches (Pr 4:7, 8:10).

And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house (Acts 7:10).

Moses (Wise Leader)

He was saved by God from his birth, he learned all Egyptian wisdom. Then he graduated in God’s wisdom lessons to get Israel out of Egypt.

In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father’s house three months: And when he was cast out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son. Joshua (Wise Leader)

He learned by observing Moses, obeyed God and led the people of Israel to the promised land.

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses (Deuteronomy 34:9).

David (Wise Leader)

He never allowed his errors to take him away from the source of Wisdom: “The fear of the Lord”.

To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth (2 Samuel 14:20).

Abigail (Wise Wife)

She managed her home very well even though her husband was a bad-tempered and bad-tempered man.

Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb (1 Samuel 25:3).

Solomon (Wise Leader)

He knew what to do even when very often he failed to put into practice his own wisdom.

And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore (1 Kings 4:29).

Daniel (Wise Counselor)

Known as the man who was in communion with God. Solved complex problems with God’s help.

There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers; Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation (Daniel 5:11-12).

Magicians (Apprentices of Wise)

Not only did they receive special discernment that God would visit the earth, but they personally verified it.

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him (Matthew 2:1-2).

Esteban (Wise Leader)

He organized the distribution of food to Greek widows. He preached the gospel to the Jews.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake (Acts 6:8-10).

Pablo (Wise Messenger)

Step talking about the love of God to all who wanted to hear. I preach the Gospel of salvation in Africa, Asia and Europe.

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction (2 Peter 3:15-16).

Jesus Christ (Savior Wise, Wisdom of God)

His life was not only perfect, but he also died on a cross to save us and make God’s wise plan of eternal life available to us.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52).

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:21-24).
